Before you move
- Call or log in to your insurer and give your move date and new address.

Moving company protection
Professional movers offer their own protection for your belongings. Basic protection is often very limited, paying based on the weight of an item rather than its value. Full-value protection costs more but pays to repair or replace damaged items. Ask the mover what’s included before moving day.
Storage units
Renters insurance often covers belongings in a storage unit, sometimes with a lower limit. Many storage facilities also sell their own protection plans. Check your policy before paying for both.
Moving to a new state
